The Bobcat, or "Aero Jeep" as it was going to be officially called,was designed to be a 1500 pound Air Borne Combat Vehicle which wouldshare as many parts as possible with the M38 and M38A1. The frame wasapparently derived from the MB frame tooling to save costs, and theprototype weighed 1475 pounds, a little less than the experimental MBL(lightweight) of World War II. Like the MBL, the Bobcat did not go intoproduction, and the concept of a small, lightweight combat vehicle wassoon taken a step further in the aluminum-bodied M-422 Mighty Mite.(Willys Motors)
