Anchor Pedal-Drive Jeeps

Anchor stencil A large stencil on the hood makes it difficult to mistake this Anchor pedal Jeep for the somewhat similar Tri-ang Jeep manufactured in the UK. I don't know where the Anchor Jeeps were produced, but they have appeared in Europe, North America and Southeast Asia, and this survivor was auctioned in Australia.

Australia There are some additional features that distinguish the Anchor from the Tri-ang, including the chromed rear railing and the headlights which have plastic lenses, rather than being simply stamped into the metal. An electric horn is mounted in the middle of the grille, which has the slots stamped but not cut out. And the wheels with their red hubcaps are distinctive.

See also a rear view (140K JPEG).

Hood logo

A U.S. example is preserved in great shape, with the exception of the flat pieces missing from the windshield frame.

Electric horn Colin Peabody found this example in Oregon with the headlight lenses gone. The hood stencil is worn away or was never applied, but above the front grille the sticker with the word "Anchor" and a logo consisting of a black cat, a checkered flag and an anchor, is clearly visible. The steering wheel (60K JPEG) is complete with a chrome ring and button to activate the horn.

The tires have the words "Anchor" and "Trade Mark" and the tire size "1 1/4 X 8 1/4" on each tire. Between the words "Trade" and "Mark" there is the symbol of an anchor.

Later version A version in red, apparently more recent, has shown up in several countries in Southeast Asia. It has plastic wheels, a roll bar, and graphics including, oddly enough, a star with the words "Texas Ranger Houston" on the hood.

Later version The roll bar has been replaced backwards on this example, possibly after some repainting was done. This view also shows the bull bar on the front, and the Anchor graphic on the windshield, quite different from the older logo.

Does anybody have any further information on Anchor?
