Willys-Kaiser Jeep Family Tree

Hubert Cossard drew the illustrations for this family tree of Willys and Kaiser Jeeps, 1941-1971. There are other posters showing the various models, in particular the Pictorial History of the Universal Jeep, but this is the only one that shows how those models developed, and the relationships between them. Perhaps most notable is the central importance of the CJ-3A and the CJ-5, each of which led directly to a whole new generation of models.

This is the "Universal" or 1/4-ton Jeeps, so the bigger relatives are missing, in particular the numerous Jeep station wagons and pickup trucks, the 1948 Jeepster, and the FC-170 truck. Many of the one-off experimental models and concepts are also not included, but a few of the most significant or representative prototypes are here, including the CJ-1, the various 1950-51 CJ-4 prototypes which preceded the CJ-3B, the 1956 Sportif which was one of many DJ-3A concepts, and the 1958 Post Office CJ-3B test vehicle.

Click on the diagram for the larger copy (670K JPEG) including production dates for each model. Watch for Hubert's full size drawings of the front, back and sides of these and more Jeep models, coming soon on CJ3B.info!
